Music

Whether you listen to rock, pop, classical, reggae, hip hop, rap, dance or club you are still a fan of music. It doesn’t matter what genre, what band or what artist is to your taste, you can still consider yourself someone who enjoys music. It is because of these diverse qualities that the art form is so popular.

There is something for everyone.

You could listen to anything. It could be U2, Foo Fighters, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Radiohead, Muse, Tool, Status Quo, Nirvana, Blur, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Killers, Oceansize, The Mars Volta or Guns n’ Roses. But then you could alternatively be listening to The Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Britney Spears, Madonna, Take That, McFly, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Will Smith or Rhianna.

And these are only the more popular artists. There are a whole range of further musicians who play in clubs, theatres and arenas all over the world. Some of them are popular in certain areas and some of them go by largely unknown, only listened to by a small minority of fans.

This is why ‘music’ is such a broad term, encompassing a whole world of meaning and diversity which is attributed to many different people. We can listen to it on our own whilst working, we can put time aside for our favourite song and we can listen to an mp3 whilst on the go. But then there are those times when we hear music without even meaning to, when we watch a film and the a fast paced song ups the tension in an action scene, when we are in a shop and they have music playing in the background, or how about mobile phone ringtones? All of these mean that it is almost impossible to go about our daily routines without hearing music at some point.

It doesn’t help that there are a wealth of ways to experience music. If we are not witnessing our favourite musicians live we can hear them on the radio or television or we could put a CD into our CD players or a vinyl record, mp3, mini disc or tape.

Music is a diverse and versatile medium and will continue to evolve and flourish way into the future.
